Is Budweiser American or Czech?
It's kind of both (and rather complicated), but the brand of Budweiser that you'll recognise from TV ads is American (owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev). Meanwhile, there's the similarly named and branded drink from Czech brewers Budweiser Budvar. The American Budweiser has been brewed since 1876, while the Budweiser Budvar was originally founded in 1895. Despite the American version being founded first, the brewing method used by both companies originates from the former German city of Budweis (now part of the Czech Republic) - hence the tricky situation of who has the rights to use the name. As a result, both companies (through umpteen court cases) claim rights to use the 'Budweiser' in different countries. In the UK, court settlements outlined that neither company has exclusive rights to the 'Budweiser' name, which is why you'll find both types listed in our range.
