When it comes to classic holiday cocktails, the piña colada is definitely up there! It’s got those nostalgic 1980’s vibes, and it’s hard to find a resort that doesn’t have one on the menu, but the iconic piña colada actually dates back to the 1950’s. It was invented in Puerto Rico and made with pineapple juice, rum, and coconut, served blended or with crushed ice. The name actually means “strained pineapple” in Spanish! 

Just a sip of this cocktail and you'll feel like you're lying on a sandy beach under the gently swaying fronds of a palm tree, with nothing but the blue ocean and the sound of the waves to lull you into a state of holiday bliss. It’s gotten so popular that there’s a million variations of recipes, but we’re here to show you how to make a classic piña colada…the real way!

Ingredients

  • 4 ½ oz pineapple juice 
  • 1 oz coconut rum 
  • 2 oz white rum
  • 1 ½ oz coconut milk
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (if needed!)
  • 6 ice cubes

Method

    1. Add all the ingredients into a blender container and blitz until the drink has a slushie consistency (or until smooth). You can also use a good immersion (hand) blender to mix the ingredients.
    2. Serve chilled and enjoy!
