How many types of Jameson whiskeys are there?
There are three main types of Jameson Whiskey- Jameson Original, Jameson Irish Gold and Jameson Crested. But there are also a range of limited edition expressions, like the recent Jameson St. Patrick's Day Special Edition. Each type is made with a different blend of malted and unmalted barley, giving each whiskey its own unique flavour profile. The Original has a smoky flavour that comes from the malt kiln drying process, while the Irish Gold is smoother and more complex with hints of toffee and vanilla. The Crested is matured in oak casks that have been specially finished in Brandy which gives it a sweet, dessert-like finish. What are the ingredients in Jameson whiskey?
The ingredients in Jameson whiskey are malted and unmalted barley, water, yeast, and either pot-still or column still distillates. Malted barley is a key component because it provides the enzymes that convert the starch in the barley into sugar. These sugars are then fermented by the yeast to create alcohol. The type of still used will determine the flavour profile of the whiskey. Pot-still distillation results in a whiskey that is more complex and flavourful, while column still distillation produces a lighter and more refined spirit.
